X: The Ten Commandments

In our post-modern world, we don’t like the word command —that is, unless we’re the issuing party. Commandments make us think of rules, restrictions —things that cramp our style—limit our freedom. And yet as parents we create healthy boundaries in order to preserve and protect our children from things we know to be harmful. Is there a place in a world of relativism for commandments? Perhaps. Perhaps not. But don’t we all wish we had a heavenly protector now and then? Oh wait, we do.

Character

Who are you when no one’s looking?
We live in a world of posturing. We create our own image of how we want to be seen by others. We do it through how we talk, how we dress, the clubs we join, the cars we drive, etc. And yet, history has shown us time and time again that a deficiency of character can cause our lives to come crashing down in an instant. And when it does, no amount of publicist’s spin can rebuild the fall-out of broken trust, broken honor and broken lives.

This six-week message series is designed to teach us what God has to say about true character. Unlike the thin veneer of exterior things that our culture says defines us, true Godly character is found on the inside. It transcends cultural fads, geographic location, net worth, awards, accolades and social status. It’s who we really are when no one is looking.

Journey to the Manager

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel"- which means, "God with us." Matthew 1:22-23

Emmanuel. God With Us. That's the name the prophet Isaiah used to describe the birth of the Messiah-the very presence of God in our midst. That is the story of Christmas. Advent, which literally means coming, is the story of the journey to the manger. It's a wonderful story full of colorful people, each of whom played their part in welcoming the Son of God to our world. In the coming weeks we'll take our own journey to the manger, learning from the characters of the Christmas story. We're very excited to have author, pastor and musician, Ian Cron join us for our journey. Let's not just celebrate Christmas with presents this year. Let's celebrate the presence of Emmanuel: God with us.

7x7

Seven minutes. Seven days. A life with God
It's time for a challenge. It's a big one in terms of importance, but no so much when it comes to risk or commitment. In fact, this is one of the best challenges you'll ever face in life.

During the next four weeks, we're going to reflect on Scripture every day for seven minutes. Together as a church, we'll learn what that means, how to do it, why we should do it, and most importantly, how it will impact us ways we can't even imagine!
